[27 July 2012] International Muslim charity organizations in today world - Islam And Life - English
Muslims regard charitable giving as an important religious duty in their lives; many religious scholars place giving to charity alongside praying to God. This constitutes one of five Islam's pillars called zakah, an Arabic word for "purification". According to one estimate, citizens of Muslim countries give 10 percent of their income to charitable causes. However the Muslim charitable deeds lack a visible presence in the world. This could be mainly because Muslims are not allowed to advertise their charitable works. It is more virtues according to their belief to give charities anonymously. In recent years some large Muslim charities have entered the international arena.
For example after the Boxing Day tsunami of 2004 and the earthquake in Kashmir, 3 major Islamic charities in Britain offered 1.7 million pound of emergency relief. (Muslim Aids, Muslim Hands and Islamic Relief) The Muslim presence in the world of international, modern, professional charity was not always welcomed, most notably those involved in giving aids to the people of Palestine. This week's Islam and Life asks: How important is the role of international Muslim charity organizations in today's world?

[03 June 2012] Iran hosts international confab on Imam Khomeini - English
Thinkers and scholars from 60 world countries have taken part in the conference. Iran has hosted an international conference to discuss ethics and politics from the viewpoint of the late Imam Khomeini. The conference comes as Iran is preparing to mark the 23rd anniversary of the demise of late founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Imam Khomeini on June 3. Thinkers and scholars from different world countries have already arrived in Tehran to commemorate the occasion. Thinkers believe that the teachings of Imam Khomeini will continue to inspire Muslims around the world in the years to come. Imam Khomeini, who overthrew the Shah regime back in 1979 and established the Islamic Republic believed that the keys to the victory of the Islamic revolution were the faith in God, reliance on the people and unity in words and action. Imam Khomeini died on June 3, 1989.

[10 Aug 2012] International Al Quds day for Muslim unity - Islam And life - English
Every year on the last Friday of Ramadan, Muslims commemorate al-Quds day and show their solidarity with the people of Palestine. The Palestinian cause is an indisputable aspiration shared by almost every Muslim in the world, regardless of their national, lingual and sectarian diversities. Their wish to liberate Palestine and al-Quds from the Zionists goes beyond all their differences. This year's al-Quds day, in the aftermath of revolutions and political turbulences in the Muslim and Arab world, and in the prospect of sectarian conflicts and civil wars ignited by the western powers, is a unique opportunity to forget all differences, to use the spiritual and liberating experience of Ramadan and to come together as brothers and sisters.
Muslims traditionally tend to ignore the material life and worldly pleasures and to restrain themselves from any dispute during the month of Ramadan. This week's Islam and Life asks: How important is the international Al-Quds day for Muslim unity?

Bahrain triggers human rights uproar
As many as 26 human rights organizations have called on the international community to address Bahrain's suppression of rights advocates and Shias population, an Egyptian institute says.
"We stress the international community's responsibility for curbing the security campaign aimed at silencing human rights defenders and concealing the grave abuses committed by the authorities against the citizenry, particularly the Shia community," the organizations said in a petition.
The bodies warned about "the authorities' increasing crackdown on the different forms of expression and peaceful association and assembly" and "the government's growing tendency to set the law aside in favor of naked force, detention, the torture and abuse of peaceful opponents," one of the cosignatories, the Cairo Institute for Human Rights Studies (CIHRS), said in a press release on Wednesday.
They said Manama maintained "a policy of systematic discrimination and marginalization of the Shia majority."
The Shia opposition refuses to recognize the 2002 constitution and has called for a boycott of the upcoming parliamentary elections, set for October 23. The protesting organizations also said that the suppression campaign was meant "to pave the way for wide-ranging election fraud."
Despite their demographic predominance in the kingdom, the Shias have long complained about being discriminated against by the Bahraini government when it comes to obtaining jobs and receiving services.
Earlier in the month, the Manama government revoked the citizenship of leading Shia cleric Ayatollah Sheikh Hussein al-Najati, who represents top Iraqi cleric Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani in Bahrain, as well as the citizenship of his family.
An outspoken critic of the government, Sheikh Abdul Jaleel al-Miqdad, has also been prohibited from leading the Friday Prayers.
The Bahraini government has arrested more than 250 Shias since August, accusing 23 of them of plotting a coup and provoking "violence, rioting and terrorism."

Paving the way for unity and solidarity in the Muslim world; this is the main objective of the 25th International Islamic Unity Conference held in Tehran. The three day event which is held by the World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought also aims at revising the forum's performance during the past two decades.
Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad addressed the opening session in the presence of recognized Shiite and Sunni scholars. The President pointed to many political issues related to the Islamic world.
The Islamic unity conference provides an opportunity for scholars to share views and review problems facing Muslims while presenting solutions.
A big part of the conference revolves around the topic of Islamic Awakening and the popular uprisings in the Arab world.
The World Forum for Proximity is an international organization founded by Iran. Its main aim is to create more unity and solidarity among Muslims worldwide, regardless of their Schools of Thought.

A political analyst says there are currently 178 Palestinians on administrative detention in Israeli jails and this is against international law and international norms to illegally detain people without charge. The comments came after at least 150 people were injured after Israeli troops clashed with Palestinian protesters outside Ofer prison in the occupied West Bank. The protest was held to show solidarity with Palestinian prisoners who are on hunger strike in Israeli jails with protesters calling for their immediate release. Three journalists are reported to be among the injured.
Press TV has conducted an interview with Adie Mormech, human rights activist, to further discuss the issue..
