[22 July 2012] The holy month of Ramadan begins in Iran - English
The Ramadan moon has already been sighted in all Muslim countries; this means the beginning of Muslim month of fasting.
In Iran, like other Muslim countries, the fasting month of Ramadan has begun with its special ceremonies and customs. Throughout the month, devout Muslims abstain from food and drinks from dawn until sunset when they break the fast with the Iftar meal. Fasting during this month is often thought figuratively to burn away all sins.

Syria: The August 25th massacre of civilians in Daraya left more than 200 people dead. [The Western media blamed the murders on the Syrian army and has used this to create support for a NATO attack on Syria to topple its present regime. However, eye witnesses say that rebel gangs, mostly from outside Syria, were the killers and that the army has done its best to protect citizens.

As the war in Syria drags into its third year, a growing number of Takfiri and Salafist extremists affiliated to al-Qaeda are making their way into the ranks of militants fighting Bashar al-Assad.
The secretary general of Hezbollah says these extremists are killing Shias, Sunnis, Christians and others in Iraq, Pakistan, Somalia, Yemen and elsewhere.
Observers say the policy of support for insurgents in Syria is only giving extremists a stronger foothold and making their threat to the region and the world even more serious; like what happened in London where a serving solider was butchered to death.

With one week to go to Iran\\\'s presidential election, the third and final nationwide televised debate with Iran\\\'s presidential candidates has taken place.
While the first two debates dealt with mainly domestic issues, the third installment covered politics and foreign policy in which all candidates this time around were more aggressive in their stances, many defending their past performances, which at times made for a very lively exchange.
The heated debate mainly focused on issues such as foreign policy, national security and resistance, developments in the Middle East and Iran\\\'s nuclear energy program.
In this debate, we\\\'ll be discussing how they did on the topic for this debate, namely foreign and domestic policy, and sum up their previous performances, which included the economy and culture.

A city with an altered face; the Iranian capital Tehran preparing for the vote on Friday and the heated atmosphere is everywhere. The people\'s normal commute to home and work has now become full of election banners and not just that but also rallies of supporters and campaigners. I started my journey from Tehran\'s northern Tajrish square were things were not that loud but campaigners were passing out CDs and brochures about their candidate and had opened their doors to talk to the people and make them decide on their candidate of choice. Most of the campaigns here were for Presidential Candidate Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf with their white scarves.

MATERIAL: Six Stranded Embroidery Floss (DMC BRAND)
PATTERN INFO:
For this you will need to know how to do both a forward AND a backward candy stripe. If you do not know how to make a candy stripe go here:
You will need 4 different strings cut 60\" (inches) long folded in half. This will leave you with 8 strings that need to be arranged.
Set them up as follows:
1 2 3 4 (middle) 4 3 2 1
Just look at this bracelet as two individual candy stripes. The one on the left needs to be forward knots, the one on the right needs backward knots then you just join the middle after completing the left and right \"candystripe\" bases.
Enjoy!
TIP: To make thicker stripes you need to have two of the same color beside one another. 1=Red 2=Blue Set them up as follows: 1 1 2 2 (middle) 2 2 1 1

While length and rules differ, the act of fasting, abstaining from food or from certain types of food is prescribed in all major world religions today.
One of the pillars of the religion of Islam is indeed fasting; whereby Muslims are told to fast from dawn till dusk for a period of 30 days, in a month named Ramadan.
Though it may seem a harsh or peculiar act, fasting in Islam is performed to attain closeness to Allah and has been described as one of the best deeds by Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
Fasting has also provides experience of hunger and thirst to the believers and thus develops a deeper understanding and sympathy to those in poorer parts of the world.

The Holy month of Ramadan is a month in which Muslims are commanded to fast from dawn till dusk for the full 30 days.
The Quran states \"O you who believe! Fasting is prescribed for you just as it was prescribed for those before you. Perhaps you would attain piety!\" (Quran 2:183)
Thus for 30 days, the lifestyles of Muslims around the world change dramatically. But although its core purpose is spiritually based, there are many health and medical benefits and implications of fasting including giving rest to the digestive system, decrease of cholesterol level in blood, and moderate weight loss.
