[13 June 2012] Russia will confront any US - led attack on Syria Webster Tarpley - English Israel is apparently laying the groundwork for a possible military attack on Syria by alleging that Damascus could be using chemical weapons against the Syrian people. Tel Aviv has recently expressed concern about what it calls the use of chemical weapons in Syria. Israel says the weapons could fall into the wrong hands and that they may even be used by Syria to carry out an attack against Israeli forces. The pretext is being used to justify a possible military assault on Syria even if it means triggering a broader conflict across the region. Ayoob Kara, a senior member of the Israeli Likud Party led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, claimed in an interview with Israel Radio on June 9 that the Syrian government has used "chemical weapons against men, women, and children" during the past months of unrest in the country. Palestinian killed in Israeli air attack At least one Palestinian has been killed in Israeli air strikes on the Gaza Strip as the acting Palestinian Authority chief and the Israeli prime minister prepare to hold their third direct meeting. Three others were also wounded in the attack which was carried out against a Palestinian "survival tunnel" in Rafah along the Gaza-Egypt border on Wednesday. The tunnels, which link the south of the impoverished enclave to Egypt, have been serving as conduits for vital supplies to the besieged Gaza Strip since June 2007, when Israel imposed a crippling blockade on the costal sliver. The perilous tunnels have been frequently attacked by Israeli and Egyptian security forces. The Israeli army has not commented on the air attack yet. The attack coincided with the third round of meetings between Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and acting Palestinian chief Mahmoud Abbas to end the long-running Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Ban also extended his condolences to the families of the victims and the Iranian people and government. The attack which took place in southeastern Iran near the border with Pakistan last Friday left over a dozen border guards dead. The assailants had infiltrated into Iran from Pakistan and fled to the other side of the border following the attack. A group calling itself Jaish-ul-Adl has claimed responsibility.

Three Indian peacekeepers are confirmed dead in an attack on a UN base in South Sudan. India\'s UN envoy says the peacekeepers were targeted and killed during an attack by a group of ethnic youths on the base in Jonglei state. The attackers were apparently chasing civilians who had taken refuge in the base. The attack on the UN base came after troops loyal to fugitive former vice president Riek Machar seized the town of Bor late Wednesday. Hundreds of people have been killed in South Sudan since violence broke out in the country on Sunday.

[06 Aug 2012] Panetta raises threat of military attack on Iran Galloway - English US Defense Secretary Leon Panetta has raised the threat of a military attack on Iran regarding its nuclear energy program in an effort to reassure what they call Israel during a trip to Tel Aviv. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu seems to dismiss the tough talk though, saying American statements of solidarity with Israel and hints at military attacks are not working. Iran however has denied the Western accusations that Tehran is seeking a military objective in its nuclear energy program. According to a Fatwa from the Leader of Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Khamenei Iran is prohibited to follow such an objective. Russian President Vladimir Putin was in London on Thursday to discuss the Syrian issue with David Cameron. So far, Russia and China have opposed any kind of UN resolution that could be seen as supporting Libyan-style Western military intervention. "Britain has retaliated in part by blocking a Russian arm shipment to Syria but the weaponry keeps getting through at least to those favored by the West," said George Galloway.

The video was posted online on Saturday by an al-Qaeda-affiliated group, which claims to have also carried out other attacks on the volatile Sinai Peninsula. The video shows a man in army uniform with a rank of a major. Egypt\'s Interior Ministry had confirmed that a former officer was behind the assassination attempt. The ex-officer was sacked from the military more than 10 years ago because of his extremist ideas. He then went to Afghanistan and joined militant groups in Iraq and Syria.

Julian Assange, the editor of WikiLeaks.org, told Al Jazeera that the footage, released on Sunday, corroborates witness testimony. The video is believed to show a US helicopter firing at civilians in Iraq in 2007, during an attack in which 12 civilians were killed, the website said.

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad says the United States and Israel plan to attack two countries in the Middle East as part of a conspiracy to apply pressure on Iran. "We have precise information that the Americans have devised a plot, according to which they seek to launch a psychological war on Iran," Ahmadinejad stated in an exclusive interview with Press TV on Monday. "They plan to attack at least two countries in the region within the next three months," he added. He said the US seeks to achieve two main objectives with the scheme. "First of all, they want to hamper Iran's progress and development since they are opposed to our growth, and secondly they want to save the Zionist regime because it has reached a dead-end and the Zionists believe they can be saved through a military confrontation," Ahmadinejad explained. He also advised US President Barack Obama not to follow the policies of George W. Bush. In addition, he warned Russian officials to avoid playing into the hands of Washington because that would go against their national interests. Commenting on the nuclear issue, Ahmadinejad said Iran will resume nuclear talks with the West in September, adding that Iran wants Turkey and Brazil to participate in the negotiations.
