A UN panel has urged Myanmar to stop Buddhist violence against Rohingya Muslims but the resolution has seen opposition from an unlikely source: The party of Nobel Peace laureate Aung San Suu Chee. In its resolution, the UN General Assembly\'s human rights committee has called on Myanmar to give the Rohingya minority equal access to citizenship. But the demand apparently didn\'t sit well with the West\'s democracy icon Suu Chee, whose party accused the UN of interfering in Myanmar\'s internal affairs. Buddhist violence against Rohingya which is said to have the state backing has become routine in Myanmar. It\'s left hundreds dead and sent another 240-thousand fleeing their homes. But Suu Chee has had little to say about Rohingya rights. And she even declined to meet with the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation delegation visiting Myanmar this week to look into the plight of Muslims.

The head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran says Tehran has built a new generation of centrifuges for uranium enrichment. Ali Akbar Salehi says Iran has built two kinds of second generation centrifuges with capacity twice as the ones before. He says the second-generation centrifuges have been installed but under the Geneva deal, Iran will not inject gas into them for six months. He also says if Iran needs 20 percent enriched uranium for its nuclear facilities, the country has the right to enrich it. Salehi confirmed that Tehran has negotiated the construction of four new nuclear facilities with Moscow. Under an interim nuclear deal reached in Geneva in November, Iran has agreed not to bring new centrifuges into operation for six months. But the deal does not stop it from developing centrifuges.

Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah-- the leader of Lebanon\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'s resistance movement Hezbollah-- has become the country\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'s person of year 20-13. The poll conducted by Lebanese Broadcasting Corporation shows Nasrallah has gained more than 60 percent of the votes. He has been leading the resistance movement, fighting the Israeli aggression since 19-92. The leader of Lebanon\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'s Free Patriotic Movement, Michel Aoun, has come next with about 13 percent of the votes. Michel Aoun and his Christian movement are considered close to Hezbollah. L-B-C had offered a list of 60 public figures, including regional leaders in its survey.

The Leader pointed to the growing power of the Islamic Revolution despite three decades of conspiracies and plots, and added, \\\"The Great Satan has brought to stage its military, financial, propaganda and political cartels in a bid to defeat the Islamic Revolution and the Iranian nation but the realities of the political scene of Iran and the region demonstrate that the US has been brought to its knees in its confrontation against the Islamic Revolution.\\\" Ayatollah Khamenei further reiterated the Islamic nature of the recent popular uprisings in the region and the influence and effects of Iran\\\'s Revolution on these uprisings. \\\"Today, Islam and Quran are prevailing among the youths and the regional nations after the failure of the hegemonic system\\\'s nonstop attempts, and this reality is the radiant rise of a flag hoisted by the Iranian nation on this land in 1357 (1979).\\\" In recent months, a wave of revolutions and anti-government uprisings has been sweeping the Arab world. In January, a revolution in Tunisia ended the 23-year ruling of former President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali. In February, another Arab revolution led to the ouster of former Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak after three decades of his authoritarian rule. Other revolutions later erupted in Libya, Yemen and Bahrain, while other anti-government unrests are growing in Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Oman, Kuwait and somehow Algeria.

US attorney general Eric Holder says the number of mass shooting incidents in the country has tripled in recent years. Holder made the remarks at the annual conference of the International Association of Chiefs of Police in the US city of Chicago. He also said between 2000 and 2008, the country experienced an average of five mass shootings every year. But since then, the annual average of mass shooting incidents has tripled. Holder also said the country has witnessed at least 12 mass shootings this year. The US has one of the highest rates of gun-related crimes in the world. Reports say over 9-thousand people lost their lives in gun crimes since the deadly Newtown shooting incident back in 2012.

An Egyptian court has sentenced 26 people to death for plotting attacks on ships in the Suez Canal. The men, who were tried in their absence, were charged while in custody. The court accuses the defendents of founding and leading a terrorist cell, which wanted to disrupt the major shipping route. It also referred the verdict to the Grand Mufti of Cairo, who now has to validate the sentences. The recent spate of violence has rocked Egypt, after former president Mohamed Morsi was ousted by the military in July, and placed under arrest. The latest ruling comes as another court in the country sentenced over 2-hundred Morsi supporters to prison over a variety of charges on Tuesday.

Deadly violence continues to plague Pakistan. A bomb has hit a passenger train in the southwestern Balochistan province. At least seven are dead, over a dozen injured. The bomb was apparently planted on the railway track. It went off when the train approached a station in Naseer-Abad district, causing the daily express to derail. The train was travelling from Rawalpindi to Quetta, the main city in the insurgency-hit province. No group has yet claimed responsibility. Our correspondent says the death toll may rise because six of the wounded are in critical conditio

Nawaz Sharif-- who\'s on an official visit in Washington-- says the U-S has violated the territorial integrity of Pakistan. He says these attacks are a threat to the ties between the two countries. Islamabad has on numerous occasions emphasized the importance of bringing an immediate stop to the strikes. The U-S claims the attacks target militants, but reports suggest many civilians have lost their lives in the air raids.

Reports coming out of Syria suggest that the army has retaken control of the ancient Christian town of Sadad from al-Qaeda-linked militants. This follows week-long clashes in the town, which is located north of Damascus. Al-Nusra Front insurgents had recently captured key areas of the town, including a checkpoint that gave them control of the western part. The fighting forced many people to flee to the nearby city of Homs or remain trapped in their homes. Sadad has a strategic location near the main highway leading to the Syrian capital.

The Leader of Iran\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'s Islamic Revolution says the United States has lost its political and military power and turned into a country grappling with its biggest economic and financial problems. He was addressing a group of school and university students on the occasion of Student Day in Iran. Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei said the U-S is suffering from political problems and divisions which led to the recent shutdown of the federal government. The Leader noted that Iran\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'s current economic hardships pale in comparison with those of the US administration. Ayatollah Khamenei said US officials made projections some 11 years ago about having 14-thousand billion dollars in extra revenues by 2011 or 2012, and that now, in practice, they are suffering from a huge 17-thousand billion dollar deficit. Iran\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'s Leader said that this alone shows America\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'s true economic situation and the inaccuracy of their official calculations. Ayatollah Khamenei also made mention of deep divisions among Washington\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'s allies, saying that the U-S has failed to convince even its closest partners like France or Britain to back its decision on launching a strike against Syria.

A Saudi Shia Muslim has been sentenced to thirty years in prison for throwing petrol bombs at security forces during a protest against Riyadh\\\'s intervention in Bahrain in 2011. The defendant was found guilty of violence and taking part in protests in Qatif in Eastern Province. Saudi Arabia has intervened in Bahrain by sending troops to keep down an uprising there. The uprising in Bahrain is demanding democratic reforms for the Shia majority. The prosecutor had originally demanded the death penalty and is now expected to appeal to a higher court.

The Palestine Liberation Organization has issued a press release on the Israeli crimes against Palestinians in 2013. It shows a sharp rise in Israel\'s violations of Palestinian rights, compared to previous years. Press TV\'s Nel Burden has the details in this report:

A former Israeli official says Tel Aviv has killed most of the people behind the deadly attacks on its embassy and a Jewish center in Argentina in the nineties. Itz-hak Aviran, who was the Israeli envoy in Argentina before retiring in 2000, made the remarks in an interview with Argentine media. He said Israel\\\'s secret service agents were responsible for the killings. Argentinian courts blamed Iran for the AMIA bombing in which 85 people died in Buenos Aires. Tehran, however, has strongly rejected such accusations. Iran and Argentina signed a memorandum of understanding last year to jointly probe the bombing in the Argentinian capital.

Rival insurgent groups continue to fight each other in syria. In the latest development, the so-called Free syrian Army has seized a compound held by al-Qaeda-linked militants in syria\'s northwest. Opposition sources say the F-S-A insurgents seized the compound after chasing fighters loyal to the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant in Aleppo\'s Manjib town. The I-S-I-S militants reportedly used car bombs for the first time to defend the compound. The foreign-backed battle against the syrian government has turned into full-scale infighting in recent days. The al-Qaeda-linked group has suffered huge losses in two days of fighting against an alliance of militant groups in Aleppo and Idlib provinces. Dozens from both sides have been killed in clashes since Friday.

The Syrian army has seized a weapons and ammunition cache used by foreign-backed militants near the capital Damascus. The arms cache was found in Darayya farms in the Damascus countryside. It includes mortar launchers, machine guns, night vision goggles, and explosive devices. The Syrian army has seized large amounts of weapons from militants across the country, since the fighting began in 2011. Damascus says the militants receive the arms from some Western as well as regional countries namely Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Turkey. The Syrian army is battling out the insurgents to push them out of the cities and other areas. It\'s managed to liberate key regions in recent months.

Lebanon\'s military tribunal has issued an arrest warrant for Jamal Daftar-Dar, who\'s the commander of the al-Qaeda-linked Abdullah Azzam brigades. The group was behind the twin bomb attacks on the Iranian Embassy in Beirut last November. Our correspondent in the Lebanese capital has the latest.

Iran\'s Islamic Revolution has been commemorated in other countries as well. Ceremonies have been held in Afghanistan, Iraq and Syria to mark the event. The ceremony in Iraq\'s Kurdistan region was attended by Iranian clerics and officials including the head of Iran\'s consul in Arbil. Kurdistan\'s regional officials were also present, including members of the region\'s main party, the Kurdistan Democratic Party. Iran\'s Islamic Revolution was also marked in Afghanistan\'s capital Kabul, and the Syrian capital Damascus. Participants hailed Iran\'s revolution and the progress the country has made during the past years.

An intelligence unit of the Lebanese army has arrested a high-profile terrorist of the al-Qaeda-linked Abdullah Azzam Brigades. The man was involved in a number of recent terror attacks in Lebanon, including the double blasts targeting the Iranian embassy in Beirut last November. The Lebanese army has arrested a Syrian commander of the terrorist group al-Nusra front. The man is said to have been overseeing the militant border operations between Syria and Lebanon.
