Brief segment of the sermon delivered recently by prominent religious scholar Ayatollah Sheikh Hussein Al-Radhi and that resulted in his arrest by the Saudi authorities. The sermon was delivered in one of the mosques in the ‎Ahsaa region in Eastern Saudi Arabia. Sheikh Al-Radhi called on the Saudi government to let Hezbollah and the other countries of the region be, and to focus instead on national reform. Shortly after this sermon was delivered, Sheikh AlRadhi was arrested in the town of Al-Rumailah. Sheikh AlRadhi is known for his criticism of the Saudi role in destabilizing the region. He often denounced the Saudi regime’s crimes in ‎Yemen, and he demanded that Saudi troops be withdrawn from ‎Bahrain. Sheikh AlRadhi was also one of the few scholars who dared to condemn the horrendous crime of executing Sheikh Nimr AlNimr along with several other activists earlier this year. #FREESHEIKHRADHI

On 21st February, Dundee University Muslim Message Society organised an interfaith event in co-operation with Our Christian Friends. Sheikh Hamza Sodagar represented the Islamic view while Rev Dr Keith Small gave the Christian prespective. In his talk, Sheikh Hamza Sodagar highlighted the different misconceptions that are presented in the name of Islam and how we as public should be careful of these prejudice and the need to be tolerant towards the different faiths and religions.

Video footage has surfaced online showing radical Salafist Sheikh Ahmad al-Aseer beating up a Lebanese abductee with his rifle. The hardline cleric, whose extremist group of Salafists had recently kidnapped Mohammad Abu Zahr in the Abra region of the city of Sidon in southern Lebanon, is shown with some of his companions hitting the man. Aseer had previously denied having attacked Abu Zahr. The radical Sheikh is on the run from the Lebanese military after his armed group launched a deadly attack on an army post last month, leading to the death of 20 soldiers and injuring a number of others in the ensuing confrontations.
