The polling stations for the Iranian presidential election opened in Germany to give Iranians living outside their home country the chance to cast their vote. More than 100,000 Iranians live in Germany and despite Friday being a working day here, many came to the Iranian Embassy in Berlin to vote. Polling stations were set up in Berlin, the consulates in Hamburg, Munich and Frankfurt as well as in Bonn, the former German capital. Eligible voters taking part in the election chose one of the six candidates to succeed Mahmoud Ahmadinejad as president of the Islamic Republic of Iran. And although they might be far away from their hometown, they feel the responsibility to take part in this key event. The polling station in the Iranian Embassy in Berlin remains open for the day allowing Iranians to freely cast their vote and contribute to electing the candidate of their choice. Many Iranians living in Germany have used their right to vote in Iran\'s presidential election in the five polling stations set up all over the country and now they curiously await the result.
